I have never seen one of these, as they are not really common in Connecticut ;-), but he looks an awful lot like the chickadee on my back yard feeder, only instead of a white breast, he has red. What a lovely collage.

I was honored by a small group of these lovely jewels taking a break in one of my trees. I was so excited! Even the name of these stunning birds is nice and so appropriate. They truly are vermillion! Something I find interesting about these birds is that during courtship the male delivers a butterfly or other ornate insect to a female as enticement for mating. It is the bird version of flowers and chocolates : )

I'm mainly a lurker here on your blog, but I just had to comment after seeing your beautiful photos and painting of one of my favorite birds! We don't have them here in the southeastern US, but I have seen them when visiting in southern Arizona.
