If a Bird Flew...

I just received my brand new copies of the third book
I illustrated for Eschbach in Germany!
The book is called "Kommt ein Vogel geflogen, Himmlische Grüße und Wünsche"
by
Hanna Mühlbauer.
I think it translates to "If a Bird Flew, Heavenly Greetings & Wishes".
I don't speak German so correct me if I'm wrong ;)

I'll be back this coming Thursday to celebrate my birthday
with a giveaway that will include a copy of this book, a watercolor original
among many other surprise goodies!
It's going to be a good one, I hope you will join me.

Great book. I love your illustrations :)! I'm glad some other germans realized that too...

Your translation is not completely right, but it's really hard to translate. It's not past tense, it's more like a description of something, that is happening at the moment. It's a german (kid's) song and there is a first-person narrator singing. It's something like: A bird is flying towards me (and it is sitting down on my feet... )

I think that's confusing, but I don't know how to explain it better...

Greeting from Germany, Fee

"Kommt ein Vogel/Vöglein geflogen" is a german song, the origin of the song is in Austria! Oh, Fee already explained :)

The book looks great and I can´t wait to celebrate your birthday with you ;)))

Greetings from Vienna, Austria! Selina

Happy birthday in advance. And congratulations for the book - wonderful! :)

Yes, it's hard to translate, something like:
There's (like: just coming) a bird flying towards me.

Greetings!

One day I ended here at your blog and I love it. I learned to love more birds thanks to my husband that have some obsession with them :) and since then I am so attentive to everything that has to do with them. Even embroidered some bird to my newborn boy clothes ;) so beautiful work you do. I need to actualize my blog, have it a little forgotten. So cool you live so close. Groetjes as we say in the Nederlands y saludos aquí :)

Very lovely book Geninne. You don't have to understand German to appreciate its beauty.

And, wait a minute, aren't you supposed to 'receive' presents on your birthday not 'give them away'! :) You are always so generous.

The power of art created with love crosses all borders and transcends language, and the bird as metaphor for soul helps make these leaps.
Thank you for creating.

Whatever is the correct translation it is a beautifully illustrated book I think of poems?

Pajarito, vuela, vuela,
saludo y beso mándale,
Yo no puedo acompañarte,
pues aquí me quedaré.

Kommt a Vogerl geflogen,
Setzt si nieder auf mein’ Fuß,
Hat ein’ Zetterl im Schnabel,
Von der Mutter einen Gruß.
Lieber Vogel, fliege weiter!
Nimm ein’ Gruß mit und ein’ Kuss.
Denn ich kann dich nicht begleiten,
Weil ich hier bleiben muss.

:)
Por cierto, es muy bonita! Gracias por descubrirmela!

I just commented on your birthday - then scrolled down. I saw Kommt ein Vogel geflogen and had tears in my eyes. It is a traditionel German song, one that my grandmother used to sing to me. Now-a-days I doubted that the children still know this song.
I have the melody in my brain now.

It translates somewhat like:
Comes a bird flying by,
sits down on my foot.
Has got a paper in its beak.
From the mother a greet.

Dear bird, keep on flying,
take with you a greet and a kiss,
I can't go with you,
because I have to stay here.
